Nicole LeCave named finalist for Dawson County Superintendent
PRESS RELEASE – On December 20, 2021, the Dawson County School Board took another step in their search for the next district superintendent. The board has been working on this selection since Dr Damon Gibbs announced his retirement earlier this year. The finalist chosen by the BOE for the Superintendent of Schools of Dawson County is Ms. Nicole LeCave. School Board President Elaine Wilson said, âI have no doubts that with our selection of Ms. LeCave, we have identified the right person to lead our school district. “
Ms. LeCave has been employed by the Dawson County School Board for twenty-three years; fourteen of those twenty-three years have held a leadership position. At the building and system level, she has led teams of teachers, administrators and support staff to high levels of academic achievement and led key initiatives that have contributed to the growth of the school system. During his tenure, Dawson County schools were in the top 10% of the College and Career Performance Index; the performance of district elementary and middle schools has remained among the best in our region which consists of 14 counties in North Georgia; elementary schools have been aligned; standards-based scoring was launched; grades six-twelve have been realigned; graduation credits earned by eighth grade students and dual enrollment programs have increased significantly; Data-driven professional learning, joint assessment and formative assessment tools were created. There are more accomplishments that could be listed, but the list goes on. All of them brought success to the schools of Dawson County.
Ms LeCave is currently Assistant Superintendent and works closely with Dr Gibbs on all areas of the school system including facilities, finances, transportation, maintenance, personnel, nutrition, etc. She understands the goals of the school system and will ensure continuity and a smooth transition for our staff and students. The challenges and opportunities brought about by increased growth will require that Dawson County schools have a leader who can uphold the core values ââof the district, but also embrace growth in new and innovative ways for the benefit of our students. In her bio, Ms. LeCave articulated two principles she has built her career on: serving others and adding value. The school board unanimously agrees that the next Dawson County School Superintendent will be Nicole LeCave.
According to Georgian law, the board of directors must wait at least 14 days between the announcement of a finalist for the post of superintendent and the formalization of the appointment. The board is expected to vote to appoint the next head of the school district on Tuesday, Jan.4, 2022, during its regular business meeting.
