The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a manager to focus on fundraising and event strategy in Miami and throughout Florida. In collaboration with the development and outreach team in Miami, the manager will actively participate in the local fundraising strategy by developing and maintaining a portfolio of supporters and improving internal and external communication. This full-time position will be based in our Miami office and will report to the Miami Director of Development and Outreach.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are operating with reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely if local mandates require, but will be required to work periodically from the Miami office. We recognize that this time during the pandemic is a particularly difficult time for most people, especially those with care responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in the recruitment and onboarding of this post. We anticipate that the successful candidate will begin this position in November 2022.

Responsibilities:

1. Partner with Miami Director on Florida fundraising strategy and execution, including managing a small portfolio of mid-level and entry-level donors;

2. Manage and support the production, logistics and administrative functions of fundraising, awareness and culture events in Miami, including HRW’s annual Voices for Justice celebration, scholar briefings, film screenings, advocacy, cultural events, conferences and private dinners;

3. Support Miami Development Team meetings by creating agendas, event materials, and background materials; write and distribute minutes; order goods and follow up;

4. Organize logistical and stakeholder management aspects of events by maintaining key spreadsheets, creating and tracking guest lists, tracking fundraising expenses, documenting gifts received, preparing solicitation and recognition materials, organizing and shipping event materials and compiling fundraising tracking reports;

5. Identify areas of interest to our community regarding the work of HRW and build relationships with partner organizations. Identify new opportunities so that the Development & Outreach department can adopt a proactive and strategic approach to events;

6. Manage various aspects of the Miami Committee including committee meetings, executive meetings, sub-committee meetings, communications, event calendars and projects and work closely with the Miami Director and the chairman of the Miami committee;

7. Work with and support the Miami team to build the organization’s support base by seeking, identifying, cultivating and soliciting philanthropic commitments and general support funds from current supporters and potential donors; create and maintain effective systems to manage HRW’s portfolio in Florida;

8. Present the work of HRW to existing and potential supporters;

9. Provide support services for the Miami office, including tracking gifts, overseeing prospect and donor research, and managing Salesforce data entry;

10. Assistance in the creation and regular monitoring of a budget;

11. Supervise the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers, interns and assistants and coordinate their work;

12. Promote an inclusive and positive work environment, including by soliciting diverse viewpoints, encouraging staff to participate in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and proactively addressing bias, discrimination, microaggressions, etc. ; and

13. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications/marketing, social sciences, international relations or related studies is required.

Live: A minimum of five (5) years of donor management or fundraising experience and demonstrated success in managing large-scale events is required.

Salary and benefits: HRW seeks exceptional candidates and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits. HRW offers a relocation assistance program and will help employees obtain the necessary work authorization, if necessary; citizens of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. This position is based in the United States and the salary range would be 77,000 to 85,000 USD. Pay scales outside of the United States vary by location.
