BJP Sarpanch shot dead by terrorists in Baramulla

In another act of terrorism, a sarpanch was shot down by unknown terrorists in Baramulla on Friday night, Jammu and Kashmir police have informed.

The incident reportedly took place in the Goshbugh area of Pattan, where terrorists opened fire on Manzoor Ahmad Bangroo, an independent sarpanch.

The victim was immediately taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have cordoned off the area and a search operation is underway to catch the terrorist involved in the murder, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir BJP has condemned the killing of sarpanch by terrorists, calling it a horrific act.

“We strongly denounce the barbaric murder of Sarpanch Manzoor Ahmed Bangroo of Goshubugh, Pattan by terrorists. It is a horrific act. Terrorists have no religion or mercy even during the fasting month of Ramadan,” Altaf Thakur said , spokesperson for the JK BJP.

Further condemning the killing, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on Sarpanch, Manzoor Ahmad Bangroo. The perpetrators of this despicable act will be punished. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family at this time of grief.

The leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Jammu and Kashmir and former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter to condemn the killing and expressed his grief to the sarpanch’s family, calling the act targeted assassination.

“Deeply saddened to learn of today’s targeted assassination. Condolences to the family. There does not appear to be an end in sight to the bloodshed in Kashmir. Yet nothing seems to move the GOI enough to change its approach to J&K,” Mufti said.

“Deeply saddened by the news of the killing of a Sarpanch Manzoor Ah Bangroo in Pattan. Even after several security assessments, regrouping them in secure accommodation in Srinagar, why do the Sarpanches continue to be killed,” PDP wrote on his Twitter account.

Notably, last month, Sarpanch Sameer Ahmad Bhat was shot dead by terrorists in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar. Bhat later succumbed to injuries.
