Barry Trotz personifies islanders’ frustrations with a stick throw
This season has been incredibly frustrating for the New York Islanders. I don’t have to tell you if you’re reading this. Since the jump this year, the 13-game road trip, the COVID, the losing streak, it’s been one hell of a season.
Last night, Barry Trotz did something which I think is the personification of this year’s islanders’ frustrations.
Barry was trying to call a time out and the refs wouldn’t recognize him so he started hitting a stick on the boards then threw it off the ice in frustration. Honestly, I don’t hate the move at all.
Yes, he was penalized but the Blues didn’t score and the Islanders were already offside. He was trying to breathe life into his team, and sometimes you have to be a little unorthodox. That’s the reaction any of us would have had.
After the match, Barry Trotz did not hesitate. He said they were brain dead after the first and that they hadn’t fought enough in their game. I would say both assessments are more than fair for this team.
The Islanders have 11 games left and the playoffs are no longer in contention, which by expectations for the year is a major disappointment. It’s Trotz’s job to not allow the team to give up the stretch here, which he’s been pretty good at overall, and to keep morale high for next season.
Hopefully for him there is a younger defender for the left side and a frontline winger who was acquired in the offseason to make his life easier.
